Declaration of DumbieDykes

The Declaration of Dumbiedykes intends on exploring the exterior and façades of the Dumbiedykes estate, bringing together a series of photographs taken on my travels through the neighbourhood. Dumbiedykes has one of the strongest communities I have seen, however due to negative press in the media and lack of government funding there is a stigma regarding the council estate and its aesthetic.

The Declaration of Dumbiedykes allows for the beauty of the area to shine through the criticism through the powerful colours of Coral Green and Viking Blue, the ‘fresh’ coat of paint on the façades of the buildings is the only sign of regeneration for the estate in recent years, only making you wonder if this is for the community of Dumbiedykes or for the eyes of those around the highly gentrified parliament building area. A special mention goes out to those who mourn the loss of Lewis McCartney, an 18-year-old boy who life was unfortunately taken weeks prior to my photography expedition.
