Shattered Visions (2024) was a sculptural work developed through experiments with photographic image transfer and concrete casting. The piece brought together hand cast concrete shards, laser printed photographic transfers, and a constructed faux concrete plinth to create a fragmented architectural surface.
The photographic imagery embedded within the shards was drawn from my own photographs taken during the Paolozzi Award research trip to Berlin. These images, originally documenting architectural detail and surface, were fractured through the transfer process, allowing the imagery to crack, distort, and partially disappear as part of the material language of the work.
Residual dust, sand, and aggregate were left visible around the plinth, emphasising collapse, process, and material decay rather than a finished object. Looking back, Shattered Visions marked a move towards embedding photography within material, positioning the image as something broken, physical, and unstable rather than fixed or purely representational.
